prepaid electronic meter

The Prepaid Electric Meter is almost like a pay –as-you –go mobile phone, As long as you have the balance on your prepaid card, you will be provided with energy.

Prepaid Meters required a Software that has the ability to generate a token which can be analyzed by the meter and Converted to KWH.

The software is programmed to only generate a token if the meter is in credit. All prepaid software functions by using the STS technology.  Poor payment records of state-owned discoms have not only adversely affected power generation companies, but have also contributed to stress in the banking sector.

“Smart metering would empower consumers with tools to help them conserve energy and plan their electricity usage in an efficient and optimum manner,” the statement said.

Standard Electric Meters

Before the government’s big push to install smart meters in homes and small businesses across the country, standard electric meters that require manual readings were the most commonly installed piece of equipment to measure electrical power usage.

The plan is to make sure everyone is offered a smart meter by the end of 2020, but some people are opting not to have one installed. Reasons for refusal range from a risk of being hacked, to it not working in areas with poor internet signal, to health risks.

Whether you choose the smart version or the regular version, standard meters are generally easy to read, showing your electric usage in kilowatt hours (kWh). You simply note the numbers from left to right, ignoring any after the decimal point.

Dial Electric Meters

Dial meters are made up of a series of small ‘clock faces’. You read the numbers on each clock from left to right, and if the needle is between two numbers, you read the lower number. There’s no need to note any numbers shown in red.

Digital Electric Meters

Digital meters show the reading on an LCD display. If you can’t see the number, you may need to press a button to display it.

  • Notifications and alerts via SMS/Email when recharge balance is low
  • Keeping the record of recharge consumption history for easy support & follow-ups & much more available on your fingertips using the mobile App.
  • Water and Gas meter also can be integrated with prepaid energy meter for monitoring .
  • It monitors and display the balance VLL, VLN, A, Hz, W, PF, VA, KWHEB and DG Gas and Water consumptions.
  • Over kVa tripping in EB and DG mode with programmable reconnection time of 10 sec 1 min,10min, & 2 hours.

The Process Involved in Prepayment Meter:

Prepaid meters are looped through RS485 port and the data from the meter is fetched to the ElNet PPS software via the Ethernet router/Local LAN.

    • ElNet Software is installed in the central server, to handle remote monitoring, data logging and reporting.
    • PPS software module handles – Recharges, Billing, Payments and Receipt.

The customer :

  • Can transfer credit via encrypted recharge tokens like in Keypad prepayment system.
  • Each meter has a unique RF card, handled by the tenant
  • ElSoft PPS software manages the database.
  • Billing and recharging the RF card is also done with this software.
  • The encoded token/key/credit is automatically transferred to the meter and the meter balance gets credited when RF card is flashed against the meter.
  • Meter trips off the load at once the balance gets to zero
