Score High with These Tips to Improve Your PTE Essay Writing Task

Essay writing might sound to be a simple task, but it is not that simple. It’s not just a question that is to be answered in 200-300 words, or it adds on to your PTE writing score.

Essay writing task is becoming very critical when you hear that it should be finished in 20 minutes and that too, without attracting a penalty. It should be noted that the essay writing should be in the PTE determined format.

It is a mixture of collecting clear and logical ideas together and organizing them in such an order that it gives a grammatical sense to them.

There are different tips that you can follow to write an attractive and meaningful essay in your writing task. The tips are:

1. Make it easy to read

Often the excited aspirant makes a mistake of using complicated words to showcase their hold on the English language and end up making the sentence difficult to read.

You must avoid writing long sentences and make sure to avoid using punctuations more often. Keep the sentence simple and make sure that it depicts your idea clearly, and it is logical.

For example:

Sentence 1:

Many people adopt different methods of weight reduction, and many of them believe that skipping a meal will help reduce weight, but it doesn’t help much instead have a drastic effect on your health, so it is not advisable to skip a meal for that you can replace it with having meals at small intervals.

Sentence 2:

Many people adopt different methods of weight reduction; one of them is skipping the meal. Unfortunately, it doesn’t help much, and it affects one’s health. Do not skip the meal; instead, you can have small portions at small intervals.

Here sentence one becomes difficult to read, whereas sentence 2 is clear and easy to understand.

Plan and write

Yes! This might seem to be a silly idea to most of you, as you might think that we are limited with time (20 minutes to be precise).

But, what if I introduce you to instances where people have begun writing the essay and mid-way of the argument they get doubtful about their ideas, and they had to start again.

Some people think that once they will start writing, and the ideas will start flowing. But sadly this works very rarely.

But jotting down doesn’t take much of your time; instead, once you are clear with the flow, you will be able to complete the task in the given time limit.

3.Use the “right” structure

“right” structure for the essay writing to the PTE aspirants is familiar as almost every one of you know that it is the standard 5- paragraph format. It begins with the introduction to the topic, followed by 3 paragraphs describing the arguments (in-favour or against) that you want to highlight upon and then end it up with the conclusion.

So, the structure is

Introduction to the idea —– Argument 1 —- Argument 2 —– Argument 3 —- Conclusion

Make sure every paragraph conveys a proper meaning. You can use variables in the structure by writing the first argument supporting the topic in the second para and the next two paras against the topic or vice-versa. You can also choose to write arguments supporting the topic or against it.

4.Use simple vocabulary

Even though you might be an English native speaker but instead of using the problematic words, it is advisable to use their synonyms.

Make sure you do not repeat words, as you will have a sure shot advantage of showing your language diversity.

To improve your vocabulary, reading as much as you can be beneficial. Read different types of articles, stories and reports to understand and become familiar with different kinds of sentence structures. Also, your language diversity will be improved.

5. Add-on Elements

Your essay becomes more robust and reliable with the use of add on elements like supporting examples, valid reasons and statistics that will make your arguments persuasive. Remember to keep these elements to the point as you have only 200-300 words to write in your essay.

6.Time for Run-through

Once you are done with writing your essay, make sure you have enough time left to give a run through the essay to check if you had made any mistake.

Check for the grammatical errors, spelling errors, punctuation errors, etc., as you are judged based on all these elements. Also, give a check to the style, structure of the essay.
