How to Line Metal Pots to Protect Plants from Heat

Do not restrict your gardening skills to a specific outdoor area only. With so many advances, you can now use container gardens to add the touch of nature to your kitchen windowsill. Such approaches enable one to add plants to otherwise inaccessible areas of the property. The metal plant pots and garden planters are a unique way of adding such plantations to any area of the house. However, these pots fall prey to overheating due to extreme temperature changes and weather conditions.

Benefits of Metal Flower Pot

The metal pots are available in a wide range of aluminium and galvanized steel to the cast iron. These do not crack nor break into pieces. But few thin metal planters can dent over time. However, metal planters are often used as the cache pots which eliminates the worry of seepage of any metals into the soil. Another benefit of using such containers is that one can easily repot the plant according to convenience.

However, the main challenge lies in the maintenance of these pots as they tend to get heated pretty severely. As a result of this heating, sometimes the properties of these metals can change adversely, which might hold problems for the plants. Hence, to prevent such overheating of the metal pots, here are some beneficial remedies:

  • Pick the Appropriate Metal Pot

It is a necessity to pick the correct type of metal planter for the benefit of your plants. The light-coloured ones can reflect the heat better than the dark-coloured ones. If the planter is larger, then it can distribute the heat substantially compared to the small ones.

  • Line the Metal Flower Pot With A Plastic Planter

One needs to place a plastic pot to provide a protective liner to the roots of the plants. Such a layer helps to protect the roots of the plants from the adverse effects of overheating. For better results, one can choose a plastic pot with drainage holes which would allow natural seepage of water. Such a setup would help the metal pots to dissipate the heat properly along with the evaporation of moisture and smooth flow of air.

  • Ensure the Presence of Water and Moisture in the Pots

The absence of water in the plastic liner can aggravate the results of overheating and hence destroy the roots of the plants. To avoid such situations, it is essential to keep a check on the moisture level of the soil. In case of drought, it is advisable to go on adding water to keep the soil cool and moist.

Apart from these solutions, one should choose an excellent spot for their metal plant pots. One should carefully select the place which won’t be overexposed to the sunrays or severe weather conditions. One can also group several containers to help insulate the surfaces of the pots from the direct sunlight. Look for areas that facilitate proper air circulation and can carry off the excess amount of sunlight.
