Being the most important financial document in India, it is vital to have a PAN Card, especially if you are working and taking home taxable income that falls under the slabs. 

Even if you don’t, having a PAN Card is not bad as you may require it later while filing your Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and also use it as a proof of identity. What’s more, you may also use it for carrying out multiple types of transactions in India. 

But many people don’t apply for a PAN Card as they think that the process is complex. They are also of the opinion that getting a PAN Card takes almost half a month, which may not suit the instant generation of these days.  

The Income Tax Department that issues the PAN Card understands the dilemma faced by people and hence; they have come with the option of availing the e-PAN Card.

How to apply for e-PAN Card and start using it on the go?

The e-PAN Card facility is absolutely free of cost if you make an application for a hard copy of the PAN Card after making a payment of Rs.107. However, if you have not applied for a PAN Card before, it is possible to do that online. The PAN Card will now be sent to the email ID that you provide at the time of applying in the form. 

If the PAN Card was allocated within the last 30 days, then you can get it free after you land on the website of the service provider and download your e-PAN Card. 

It is possible to apply for a PAN Card either on the UTIISL or NSDL website. The facility is available for free of cost for new applicants and corrections and changes in PAN. But you can get it free only within 1 month after the issue of your PAN Card in the first place. But you will need to bear a fee of Rs.8.26 including taxes for every download on the UTIISL website and it can be paid online. If you had applied for a PAN Card on the NSDL website, then you can download the e-PAN Card from NSDL only. You won’t be able to do that on the UTIISL website at all if applied on the NSDL and vice-versa. 

  1. For PAN Card request submitted on the NSDL website if the same is confirmed within 30 days by the Income Tax Department, e-PAN Card could be downloaded free. 
  2. The facility is for users whose last application was processed via NSDL. 
  3. PAN Card holders, who acquired PAN using the instant e-PAN facility on the e-filing website of the Income Tax Department, are also eligible to avail the same. 
  4. The applicable charge for the downloading of the e-PAN Card is Rs.8.26 inclusive of all taxes. 
  5. The facility is also available on the UTIISL portal only for users who have applied for a new PAN or any latest changes updates. 
  6. Users who have earlier registered with valid email ID and mobile number with their PAN record with the IT Department can also utilize the e-PAN Card feature. 

From opening a bank account to applying for a credit card to a Demat account to the filing of ITRs to sending cash to a bank account above Rs.50,000, a PAN is a must. 

Hence, it is prudent to go ahead and apply for a PAN Card online and download the e-PAN super quick to start quoting its details to your advantages right away. You can save your time and efforts and do that either on NSDL or UTIISL portals.
