What the qualification for aircraft maintenance engineer?
The DGCA (Director General of Civil Aviation) has created two main categories for this
Engineering:
 MECHANICAL STREAM B1-Study related to the study and maintenance of aircraft
engines and aircraft structures are commonly referred to as mechanical stream.
Mechanical streams students who successfully pass all the basic knowledge ,module
examination conducted by the CEO(Central Examination Organist ion),DGCA(Director
General of Civil Aviation) meet all the maintenance experience required prescribed by
DGCA in civil aviation requirement-66,they receive an aircraft maintenance engineering
license in category B1.1.
 AVIONICS STREAM B2-Student in this class stream related to the study and maintenance
of aircraft instrument system ,aircraft radio and navigation system and aircraft electrical
system are commonly referred to as avionics streams. Avionics stream students who
successfully clear all the basic knowledge module exams conducted by CEO,DGCA and
meet all maintenance experience requirements prescribed by DGCA in CAR-66,receive
an aircraft maintenance engineer licence in CAT-B2.
Categories of licence:
Category A
Category A is the licence for the engineer who can maintain, repair and troubleshoot the simple defect
of an aircraft.
A1-A1 Licence holder solves the simple defect in airplane with jet engine.
A2- A2 License holder rectifies and repairs the simple in aeroplane with piston engine
A3-A3 charged AME maintain, repair and solve the simple defect in Helicopter with Jet Engine
A4-A4 charged AME maintain, repair and solve the simple defect in Helicopter with Piston Engine
Category B1
B1.1 – License B1.1 certify the aeroplanes with Jet Engine
B1.2 – License B1.1 certify the aeroplanes with Piston Engine
B1.3 – License B1.1 certify the Helicopter with Jet Engine
B1.4 – License B1.1 certify the Helicopter with Piston Engine.

What does an aircraft maintenance engineer do?

Aircraft maintence engineers are highly trained and qualified professionals who possess a licensed
certificate issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation,Gov. of India . In order to pursue a career in
Aircraft Mainteanance Engineering ,the aspiring professionals should not only posses therotical
knowledge but technical acumen and practical experience as well.

The prime responsibilities of the Aircraft Mintenance Engineers include making repairs,troubleshooting
problems ,conducting inspections and make upgrades to aircrafts. Prior to the take-off of the aircraft
,the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers inspect the air vechile and sign the Certificate ensuring safety.
Along with these,the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are also expectedto keep themselves up to date
with the latest trends and technices available in the Aviation sector and carry out regular upgradations
in the aircraft along with the maintenance and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities of Aircaft Maintenace Engineer:

-Dismelting ,Inspecting,testing,reparing and reassembling aircraft engines.
Installing electrical circuits.
– Testing communication, aircraft and electronic instruments and systems.
– Testing and replacing oxygen system components.
– Assembling aircraft frames.
– Conducting routine preflight inspections or engines and machenical systems.
– Keeping detailed records of all maintenance work .
– Ordering parts and supplies ,as needed .
– Upholding all safety and security procedures and FAA regulations.
