The story behind the Holi celebration is that there was a lord named Hiranya kashyap, he had a child, Prahlad, an Essence of God and exceedingly gave to God yet Prahlad’s commitment rankled Hiranya kashyap and he intended to slaughter his own child. He asked her sister Holika, who was resistant to flame, to sit in flame taking Prahlad in her lap. Luckily Prahlad, who was honored by Lord, was spared and Holika was scorched to cinders.
