Among the tables that are around since the last time of the Second World War, Eiermann table Richard Lampert® stands out one of the finest piece of furniture. There are two different types of these tables available from this rage. If we look at the basic features of the Eiermann Table 1 then we can see that it has a fixed cross –brace that gives the elegant work table frame superior strength. On the other hand, the second variation of this table has the cross vertical and it predestines this table 2 to the dining table.      But that hardly sums up the whole story behind this elegant piece of furniture. So, in this post I will be I will be telling you the story behind making this table, the production and definitely the story of the creator; Egon Eiermann himself. So, let’s get started.

Eiermann Tisch

Eiermann Tisch: The Idea That Shaped The Foundation Of This Furniture!

It was in 1949 when the idea of this table came into existence. But it was in 1953 this design became definite. For his students in Karlsruhe, he also used suspended door leaves which were covered with wet paper. The original frame was only 62cm high, thanks to an adjustable plate ideal for drawing big plans.

About The Creator:

In his early life Egon Eiermann used worked in the construction office of Rudolph Karstadt AG after studying architecture (Technical University of Berlin). In 1931, he founded an architecture office with Fritz Jaenecke, but started working on his own one year later. Hence, as a fruit to this, he developed a series of much respected overall work over the decades. Today he is undoubtedly one of the most influential architects of the German-speaking post-war period. The furniture designs he made stand equally beside the arch works (including German Pavilion, Brussels, German Embassy, Washington). Eiermann himself did not divorce them and saw a building as a total work of art. For Wilde + Spieth, he developed the folding chair SE-18 which was an all-purpose chair, fully functional, plastically formed, robust and unobtrusive.  In 1953 he developed the Eiermann table.

Production:

It was in 1995 when Richard Lampert acquired the licencse to produce the Eiermann Table Frame 1. After that his Stuttgart based company have produced both the original Eiermann Table Frame 1 and an adapted licence-free Eiermann Table Frame 2 version. Both of these models are available in a range of sizes and colors and are offered by ArcheTypen. Just visit the website and you can explore our complete list of deliverables. In addition Richard Lampert produces and supplies a children’s version of the Eiermann Table.

The Design:

The current Eiermann Table is based on a 1953 Egon Eiermann design. It is basically a metal table frame with a diagonally placed support crossbar. In 1965 the design of the original frame was adapted to feature a vertical support crossbar. This variation also made the frame easier to dismantle and transport. Although it makes it easier to dismantle and transport but at the same time it reduces the elegance as well from the original Eiermann table frame. In addition to the Eiermann table frame, its contemporary furniture producer, Richard Lampert also offers an accompanying table top. This is definitely a striking example of functional modernism in the Eiermann Table – or architects table as it is more often referred to due to its popularity in the profession. It’s safe to that it is a classic design that is simple as it is practical.
