COVID -19 and Diabetes:- Effective ways to manage the condition.

Today the whole world is fighting a big crisis called Corona virus (COVID-19) People are worried and are living in fear that it might happen to us or our people. The coronavirus family causes illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), according to the WHO.The symptoms of infection for the new coronavirus are often similar to those of other respiratory virus infections. Symptoms can include fever, cough, or shortness of breath. Most people will only have mild symptoms, but some can become very sick. The incubation period of COVID-19 is thought to be between one and 14 days. It is contagious before symptoms appear, which is why so many people get infected.Infected patients can be also asymptomatic, meaning they do not display any symptoms despite having the virus in their systems.Preventative measures are your first line of defense. The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is to practice good hygiene.Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include:-

• regular hand washing If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

•covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs.

•Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

•Social distancing remains a key way to mitigate spread. The CDC recommends maintaining a distance of approximately 6 feet from others in public places since respiratory droplets produced by coughing or sneezing do not travel more than 6 feet. While at home, remind everyone to practice everyday preventive actions such as washing hands and wiping down surfaces to help reduce the risk of getting sick.

•Restrict your travelTraveling can help increase the spread of COVID-19 and put you at risk for contracting the disease. The CDC recommends avoiding all non-essential international travel due to the global spread of coronavirus.

These are some of prevention that people can take to fight against Corona virus .Immunity is definitely the most to fight this disease. And we know that we have take care of children and elderly people more because their immunity is not so good. Not only elderly people but the with diseases like Cancer, Diabetes, blood pressure etc also have to take more care . Diabetes is a condition that impairs the body’s ability to process blood glucose, otherwise known as blood sugar.diabetes can lead to a buildup of sugars in the blood, which can increase the risk of dangerous complications, including stroke and heart disease.Different kinds of diabetes can occur, and managing the condition depends on the type. Not all forms of diabetes stem from a person being overweight or leading an inactive lifestyle. In fact, some are present from childhood.Studies have shown that about 25% of people who went to the hospital with severe COVID-19 infections had diabetes. Those with diabetes were more likely to have serious complications and to die from the virus. One reason is that high blood sugar weakens the immune system and makes it less able to fight off infections.

In general, we don’t know of any reason to think COVID-19 will pose a difference in risk between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. More important is that people with either type of diabetes vary in their age, complications and how well they have been managing their diabetes.

People who already have diabetes-related health problems are likely to have worse outcomes if they contract COVID-19 than people with diabetes who are otherwise healthy, whichever type of diabetes they have.

Some of the majors can be taken if the any Diabetic is quarantined:-

•Careful with social distancing rules and washing your hands. Avoid crowds as much as possible.

•Stock up on diabetes supplies (glucagon, ketone etc) over-the-counter medicines and medical supplies (like tissues, rubbing alcohol, etc.) to treat fever and other symptoms.

• Always have enough insulin for the week ahead, in case you get sick or cannot refill.

• Pay extra attention to your glucose control.

• Make sure you will be able to correct the situation if your blood glucose drops suddenly.

• Make sure you have access to enough food.
