Best Tips To Write An Obituary

Deaths are painful, and none of us like even the thought of losing a loved one. We understand that deaths are scarier, and times get tough, but the next important thing to do after losing a loved one is writing an obituary. While you write an obituary, you would want to make sure that it is warm and meaningful.

Obituaries are used to inform people that a death has occurred and contains the details of the artist designed tribute or memorial service. They can also be used to talk about the life of a person you have lost and the legacy they have left behind.

Just like the funeral service, an obituary program acknowledges the loss of life. If you have no idea about how to write an obituary, don’t worry because we have got you covered. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you write a meaningful obituary.

A Step-by-step Guide To Writing An Obituary

Announcement Of The Death

Begin the obituary with the name, age, address, birth, and death date of the deceased. You can announce the death of your loved one by using passed away, went to be with the mighty, died, and such other words. Since the word died does not sound right, you can use other words to describe the loss.

You may consider addressing the cause of death because the friends and family of the deceased might want to know the same. We know it will be painful, but you must mention the reason behind the death.

Summary Of Their Life

The next thing to include in the obituary is the brief summary of the life of the deceased. Talk about them, how well they lived their life, how they went a step ahead to make a difference in someone else’s life, and how they did things differently to make the world a better place. You do not need to include everything about their life. Just mention a few key details, facts, and information about their life.

Don’t worry about listing too much information about the life of the deceased. You can always edit the details after writing about them.

List Their Family

People say that funerals are for the lives of people living. Well, obituaries are too meant for the same reason. List the relatives of the deceased, both alive and dead. Do not forget to mention their parents, grandparents, uncle, aunt, and step-family. You have the right to mention the name of the relatives and address some by the relation only.

Mentioning the names of the family will make them feel good in such hard times. They might also reflect over the life of the deceased and the bond they shared with the lost life.

Include The Details Of The Funeral

List all the details of the funeral. Include the date and address of the memorial. If you choose a professional to help you organize the memorial, make sure you mention the website’s address and contact number.

Write A Special Message

Include a special message at the end of the obituary. A word like ‘we will always remember you’, ‘you will always be in our hearts, etc. People sometimes write a short prayer or a line at the end of the modern printed obituary, and you may also do so.

Summing It Up

Losing a life is difficult, but we all want to arrange the best possible departure for our lost loved ones. Announcing death is one of the most challenging things to do, but now that you know how to write an obituary, we hope you will be able to come up with the best possible one.
