All you have is a thirty second beep from the automatic garage door openers in Sydney that will signify a likely replacement of the backup battery. The backup battery in your automatic garage door opener helps it to open or close when there is a power failure. The power in the battery will last for about two to three hours normally. However, there may a slight difference in this time according to the power select models of the backup batteries.
These batteries are usually equipped with an internal or external battery and are specifically designed to operate for about 20 to 50 cycles depending on the model for a given 24 hour period. This internal or external battery is mounted near the motor head of each opener.
This feature adds to the convenience in operation of the garage door especially if you live in an area where poser failure is a regular feature. Your car will not have to stay outside when the weather is bad or stay in the garage when you need it the most.
Replacing the battery
The backup battery usually sits in a standby mode when there is power and starts functioning only when there is a power failure. Well, most of the automatic garage doors in Sydney that has a backup battery will send you a warning signal of damage by emitting a beeping sound.
If you hear this sound it is time for a replacement. It is very easy to replace it when you follow the following steps:
- First, unplug the garage door opener. Locate the backup battery that is usually behind a door that is near one of the light covers of the opener motor.
- You will need a 1/4” nut driver or a flathead screwdriver to open the door.
- Pull out the wires on the battery to grab it and carefully disconnect the red and black wires and remove the battery.
- Place the battery into the slot with its respective terminals facing downwards. As the batteries are perfectly, sealed you need not worry about the fluid leaking when you place it inside.
- Plug in the new battery with the red wire in the red terminal and the black wire in the black terminal.
Reinstall the cover, fix the screws and you are done. Plug the garage door opener back in to start using it once again.
Look for the lights
The tone will vary with each color to represent different status.
- A solid red light with a beep after 30 seconds signifies replacement.
- A solid orange light and beep every 2 seconds signals the battery power and flashing orange and a beep every 30 seconds signals low power and
- A solid green means fully charged battery while flashing green means it is charging.
If you miss the beeping sound of the backup battery as it is emitted for a short period, you can even look at the LED lights that provide a visual status of your battery apart from the audible beep.
