4Cs of Diamonds: How to Choose a Diamond for Your Wedding Rings

Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane, is a flourishing and vibrant city that is conveniently located between Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Like most capital cities in Australia, Brisbane also has large urban sprawls and a central business district. Brisbane is also a city that is blessed with an average of 280 days of sunshine each year. This subtropical and sunny climate of Brisbane makes it ideal for outdoor weddings.

People getting married need to plan many aspects of their wedding, such as the venue, the food, and entertainment. And one of the most important aspects of a wedding is wedding rings. Choosing the best from the collection of wedding rings in Brisbane based jewellery shops (online or brick and mortar) is not an easy task. And it can be more challenging if you want your rings to have diamonds on them.

The bulk of the wedding ring’s price relies on the diamond that will be set on it. It is, therefore, important to know how a diamond’s value is assessed. In that case, it is the 4Cs of diamonds that plays significant roles. And they are:

1. Clarity

The first grading criterion of a diamond is its clarity which refers to the inclusions and blemishes, a diamond has, within and on its body’s surface. Inclusions, the flaws within the diamond, are coloured spots included while the diamond is still forming. Blemishes, the outside flaws on a diamond’s surface, are formed during the polishing process. As a rule of thumb, a diamond with minimal or no internal or external flaws is rated high and will have a significantly higher price than a stone with a lot of flaws, to get a good value diamond for your engagement ring, choose one that has no imperfections which are visible by the unaided eye.

2. Colour

The next criterion for assessing a diamond’s value is its colour. A colourless diamond is worth a lot more than one with hints of yellow or brown. However, a colourless diamond is very rare. Therefore, choosing a yellowish stone is considered a good choice since you can always set it on a white gold or platinum to make it appear whiter or paler.

3. Cut

The third criterion and probably the most important among the four is the diamond’s cut. The cut of a diamond refers to how the diamond is processed, cut, and polished to reflect and refract light. The cut does not refer to a diamond’s shape. However, when choosing a diamond for wedding rings, it is best to choose a round cut since it gives off the most brilliance. The sparkle, fire, and brilliance of a diamond depend on how skillfully the diamond cutter cuts the diamond.

4. Carat

The last criterion in rating a diamond is its carat weight. One carat weight is divided into 100 points. Diamonds may be rated into fractions of a carat such as .50 carat, .75 carat, or .90 carat. As the diamond reaches a full carat, its price will increase significantly. We can use this knowledge of carat weight pricing to our advantage. For example, instead of buying a diamond rated with one carat, you can buy one that is 9/10ths of a carat. The .90 carat diamond price is significantly less than that of the 1.00 carat even though there is no significant difference in size when you compare it side to side.

There are many trusted jewellers from whom you can buy wedding rings in Brisbane. Even though, use your knowledge of diamonds to your advantage and combine it with a little haggling to have the best outcome. Please stick to your budget and make it a basis for negotiations since all jewellery prices are negotiable. With a little luck, you will end up with a beautiful wedding ring that will satisfy both your would-be fiancé and you.
